The upstream author describes those scenarios as approximate. Starting ownership, capitals and country names were curated for this game, and the province shapes were rebuilt as described below.
Geographic data
Public domain — credit given voluntarily
Natural Earth — naturalearthdata.com. Natural Earth is in the public domain: no permission is needed and no attribution is required. This credit is given because the map could not exist without it.
What that data is used for, precisely: the real-world coastlines and administrative outlines it provides are the raw material our own tools work from. The provinces you play are not those units. They are merged, split and simplified until each one is large enough to tap on a phone and the map plays the way the scenario needs. The source files stay outside the app; only the finished mesh ships.
The borders are a playable approximation of 1444, not a surveyed historical frontier. The eastern and southern edges of the map are where the scenario stops, not where anything ended.
Heraldry and artwork
Original work — no third-party licence involved
All 97 state banners were drawn for Age of Rivalry from historical heraldic descriptions, composed by the project's own generator from geometric primitives and from a sheet of heraldic charges drawn for this game. No Wikimedia raster, no SVG path, no tracing and no asset from any commercial game is used, which is why the heraldry carries no CC BY or CC BY-SA obligation.
They are gameplay reconstructions, not authenticated copies of fifteenth-century banners. Some entries are dynastic arms, seals, or deliberately neutral designs where no state flag is attested.
Original work
The title illustration, the launcher icon and the interface icons were made for this project. The icon shows a generic fifteenth-century armoured commander and is not a portrait of any identifiable person.
Music and sound
CC0 1.0 — no attribution required
The music and the sound effects are an original composition and synthesis made for this game and released under CC0 1.0 Universal. Nothing here comes from a third-party audio pack.
Font
Attribution required — SIL Open Font License 1.1
Noto Sans — Copyright 2018 The Noto Project Authors, github.com/notofonts/noto-fonts, licensed under the SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1. The full licence text ships inside the game alongside the font, as Fonts/OFL.txt.

Built with Unity.
Advertising
Advertisements are delivered through Unity LevelPlay with the Unity Ads adapter. What it does with data is described in the privacy policy.
Tools used to make the game
The map and the heraldry were prepared with the Python libraries Shapely, NumPy, SciPy and Pillow, all open source. They run on a desktop machine while the map data and the sprite sheets are being built. None of them is part of the app: no code from these libraries is shipped in the Android package, and they are named here only because the map could not have been built without them.
Not taken from anywhere
No province, flag, mesh, texture or data file was extracted from Age of History, Europa Universalis, State.io or any other commercial game.
